The Last Concert of Patsy Cline

Country music icon, Patsy Cline, will be featured in an upcoming production that will showcase her final concert and her unfortunate passing only days after.  Premiering this fall at the Showplace Peterborough in Canada, director and producer Tim Rowat will tell the story through the eyes of one of Cline’s closest friends, Loretta Lynn.

This world premiere event is sure to honor the great legacy of Patsy Cline who has received multiple awards since her tragic plane accident in 1963.  She received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995 and was voted by fans to be the greatest woman in country music by Country Music Television.  Her music continues to influence many generations of singers.

To hear where Patsy Cline’s career began, be sure to pick up The Birth of a Star available now on Lost Gold Records.  It features tracks recorded during the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout Performances, where Godfrey helped Cline become a household name in the late 1950s.

Director’s Guild of American awards Jewison lifetime achievement award

Norman Jewison, the famed film director responsible for such great pictures as Fiddler on the Roof and Jesus Christ Superstar, will become the first Canadian to receive the lifetime achievement prize awarded by the Director’s Guild of America. It is a very high honor, as only 32 people have been given the same award since the Director’s Guild was created over seventy years ago.

Jewison started his directing career in television with the popular 1950s variety show, Your Hit Parade. He then went on to direct numerous films; however, his most well-received was The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming. This comedy, which arose out of the cold war tension of the day, garnered him much praise and almost earned him four Academy Awards back in 1966.

Since then, Jewison has been hard at work with no plans to retire even with his most recent recognition. Today, Jewison resides in Toronto, where he continues to promote the arts in education at a local university and helps aspiring film makers at the Canadian Film Centre.
